WOYWW 169 - My First!

Well, here goes my very first link to the weekly crafty web snoop known as WOYWW (Whats On Your Workdesk? Wednesday).  Snoop on over to the Stamping Ground to peek at what others are up to.

So I decided to create something based on one of many sketch challenges found out there and am using some PearlEx powders on embossing ink.  The end results are OK but I still get smudging when removing the excess.  Need to work on that a bit.

Not liking the smudging...

  1. It's a fab effect, aren't those treees the perfect candidates for P Ex! I use a fairly thick dry brush to patiently 'stipple' on the powder without 'brushing' it across at all..any area that doesn't have powder over it yet gets stippled -stops the smudging - and when all stippled, I dust off the excess with a great big old blusher brush, literally using the tips only in a rather violent brushing action. Then I seal.....
I'm no expert but it helps, and it gives me a bit more colour control....
Welcome to WOYWW, great to see you here; and your lovely tidy desk!

    1. Thanks for that. I did in fact do the stippling but I think I was a little impatient and too firm on the brushing-off bit. Others have posted that they didn't notice much smudging. Indeed, I am my worst critic!

I was quickly addicted - gotta love the sharing, the shopping, the inspiring and of course the contrast between very very neat and very very messy!! Have fun. Love the iridescence you have captured in your photo of your trees. WOYWW Hugs to you from Helen 72

    1. Thanks. I've been snooping for awhile now and finally got a dedicated "Scrafting" room setup so I could have a workdesk to take a picture of!

  8. Welcome to WOYWW ! Love your colours & the shimmer ! I use a big very soft fluffy brush I only use for mica powders & don't sweep over it - more of an up & down motion if that helps at all ! Please could you turn off the word verification as it is a pain to do battle with to leave a comment !Ali #56

  12. Welcome to WOYWW! The shine is amazing on the trees. As for the smudges - well, that just proves it's home made!!

Still visiting desks even though it's Thursday.

    Happy WOYWW

  13. Welcome Joel, I have to admit, I picked you out of the list purely based on your "alter ego" name!! Had to come and see who that was, lol! I think I have that tree stamp but I don't think I've used it yet! No idea about the Pearl Ex but I know there are folks here happy to help. Looks like you're ready for Autumn? And crafting with meds too!!!

    1. Ha! You noticed the prescription bottle! It contains my 'fun' mix - the excess powders when I use more than one color. Eventually, I'll use it for something.

  14. The colors and shimmer on your trees look amazing. I've found using a Swiffer refill (blue furry/fuzzy thing) to sweep away the extra Pearl Ex works great and doesn't smudge anything.

  15. Welcome to WOYWW with a very tidy desk. Love the effect you got there, but can not be of any help, because I have never tried it myself. I did however read all the comments, so I might actually give it a go soon.
    Happy very belated WOYWW!

  16. I am so happy to see a man's name on this list. Love the alter ego name, as I have a 9 y.o. and he would love it too. Your trees are lovely and make we want to pull out the versamark and pearl-ex.

Sorry so late. Busy week. Katie #158
